Read the following passage and answer the questions given below:
We would find a hammer for him, and then he would have lost sight of the mark he had made on the wall, where the nail was to go in. Each of us had to get up on the chair beside him, and see if we could find it. We would each discover it in a new place, and he would call us all fools. Trying to reach a point three inches beyond what was possible for him to reach, the string would slip, and down he would slide on to the piano.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
(a) Why was it necessary for each of them to get up on the chair beside him?
Ans: Unele Podger lost the mark on wall to put the nails. That was why each of them had to get up on the chair beside him if they could find it.
(b) Why did Uncle consider each of them to be fools?
Ans: Each of them discovered the mark in a different place and for that Uncle considered them to be fools.
(c) How did Uncle Podger fall on the piano?
Ans: When Uncle Podger was hanging the picture up wall, the string of the picture slipped and down he slide on to the piano.
ACTIVITY 3
UNDERLINE THE NOMINAL COMPOUNDS IN THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES:
(a) Since it is raining, you should wear the raincoat.
Ans: raincoat
(b) Do you know how to use the washing machine?
Ans: washing machine
(c) Never waste drinking water.
Ans: drinking water
(d) There is not a single oil pump in our area.
Ans: oil pump

WRITE THE SUMMARY OF THE GIVEN PASSAGE:
The constable came. He took me by the hand and pushed me out. My luggage was also taken out. I refused to go to the other compartment and the train steamed away. I went and sat in the waiting room, keeping my handbag with me, leaving the other luggage where it was. The railway authorities had taken charge of it.

The constable pushed the passenger out with his luggage. He refused to change the compartment and sat in the waiting room only with his handbag. The railway authorities had taken the charge of his luggage.
